Welcome to Jacqui & Anatoli's Art Auction

Jacqui, Anatoli, Ignat and Milena in Varna, Bulgaria Summer 2007

In July 2010, Anatoli’s father Ignat was hit by a car while walking on the sidewalk in Bulgaria. The impact was so great that his leg had to be amputated and radical life-saving spinal surgery was performed.  In a country like Bulgaria that has undergone an unsuccessful partial transition towards privatized healthcare, much of the medical expenses have not been covered by his insurance. Ignat’s recovery, while impressive, has been slow. An added difficulty is that the judicial system is very corrupt and it is not certain that the perpetrators—well-connected and wealthy residents in a city where personal connections can determine the outcome of a case—will ever pay sufficiently for the damages.

With such depressing news, we felt the need to do something positive and proactive to help Ignat. This is when we thought about creating an online art auction to raise money to cover his medical expenses.  The art auction is made up of wonderfully talented and well-established artists from across the country that we have the great pleasure of having in our lives. Please take a look at the beautiful photography, silkscreen prints, paintings, sculpture, art rock posters, sketches and hand-made jewelry they have generously donated.

Please visit our Flickr site to view higher resolution images of each of the items up for auction.

Please consult the Auction Policies & Procedures page at the header of the blog before bidding and if you have any questions about how to participate.

Stepping away from my usual work of photographing changes within America, I have temporarily shifted my focus to nature abstracts.
